20 YEARS anniversary of miners strike (1985 - 2005)

Twenty years ago the miners went on strike to protect their industry, jobs and the trade union movement from the attack launched against them by Margaret Thatcher.

There was a massive support for the strike which lasted well into 1985.The miners received support from all over the UK and during the strike women’s support groups in East London played their part.

I was fortunate to travel to Kiveton Park colliery in Yorkshire and the photographs of striking miners were taken on one of these visits. The portrait of Arthur Scargill was taken at the Labour Party conference in 1984.
